"I thought women should cook, clean... Do I want to have children with her?"

David Justice was married to Halle Berry from 1993 to 1997. Appearing on Matt Barnes' podcast 'All the Smoke' last Thursday, August 7th, the former American baseball player opened up about this separation.

David Justice, who is now 59, said he was still in the "honeymoon" phase during the first five months after the wedding, when he began to think about the future and having children with the actress.

"My knowledge, understanding, and wisdom when it came to relationships just weren't vast. I was looking at my mother, and in my head, I thought a woman back then was supposed to cook, clean, be traditional. And then I thought, 'Okay, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?'" he began by sharing.

"Back then, when I was young, she didn't cook, she didn't clean, she didn't seem very maternal, and that's when we started having problems," she said.

"She proposed to me five months after we met," he recalled, referring to the early days of their relationship, shortly after they met in May 1992. "I said yes because I couldn't say no. Who said no back then?" he confessed.

"I don't know if I was really thinking about it, but I didn't want her to feel bad. I was just enjoying the moment," he added.

And before they separated, he recalls, they began to have even more differences, including regarding their careers. "We spent a lot of time apart because she was making films in this country and that. And honestly, we probably would have gotten along if I knew more about therapy. If we knew more about therapy, we probably would have gotten along," he commented.

"I was young and had only had one serious relationship before her," he also highlighted.

Later, after separating from Halle Berry, David Justice married Rebecca Villalobos Justice in 2001, and they remain together to this day. The former baseball player is the father of three children: Raquel Justice, Dionisio Justice, and JR Justice.

Halle Berry was later married to Eric Benét (between 2001 and 2005) and Olivier Martinez (from 2013 to 2016). She is currently in a relationship with Van Hunt.

In February, while appearing on 'The Drew Barrymore Show', Halle Berry opened up about her love life and shared: "I've heard people say, 'There must be something wrong with Halle Berry, she can't keep a man.' Who says I want to keep a man? I don't want to keep the wrong man. I'm not crazy, am I? When we find out we've made a mistake - we all make mistakes... We have the right to say, 'Oh my God, that was a mistake. Let me start over.' We have the right to do that."

It is also worth remembering that the actress is the mother of Nahla, 17, who she shares with her ex-husband Gabriel Aubry, and Maceo-Robert, 11, from her marriage to Olivier Martinez.
